Braun family papers, 1883-1961.

Personal papers and business records of the Braun family of Chicago and New York, including papers of Jacob Gottfried Braun, founder of a company (1887) that manufactured and imported decorative iron and steel architectural elements, headquartered in Chicago with a factory at 322 South Paulina Street. Early papers include correspondence with family members in Germany (in German), carbon copies of outgoing business letters (1 v., 1888-1889, in German and in English), and correspondence and legal documents about Braun's purchase, construction, and management of various commercial buildings in Chicago and New York. Also present are J.G. Braun Co. correspondence, price lists, inventories, and sales figures (in a loose-leaf binder, 1928-1930, compiled by H. J. Braun) and papers distributed to shareholders (1937-1953); business correspondence of the Braun Music Company, based in New York (late 1930s-early 1940s) including two audio discs; and correspondence, receipts, and photographs concerning a family trip to Europe in 1961.
